Thunder Women Place Ninth in Hanover Invitational

HANOVER, Ind.-- The Trine women's track and field team placed ninth in the Hanover Invitational.

Thunder performers combined to earn the team 34 points. Trine was one of 17 teams competing in the meet.

Leading the way with Trine's top finish on the day was freshman Lacie Piekarski (Spring Lake, Mich. / Spring Lake), who placed second in the 5K. Piekarski ran a time of 19:38.91 in her collegiate outdoor track debut. Kyla Binfet (West Yellowstone, Mont. / West Yellowstone) ran a personal-best outdoor track time in the 5K, finishing in 19:52.38 to place fifth.

Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) led Thunder performers in field events, notching a third-place finish in the shot put and placing fourth in the hammer throw. Jenn Steyer (Fenton, Mich. / Lake Fenton) set a new personal-best of 154 feet, 3 inches to place sixth in the hammer throw.

Trine also got two top-eight finishes in the 1500-meter run. Hannah Blystone (Carmel, Ind. / Carmel) placed fifth in her outdoor debut, while Gigi Jarratt (Valparaiso, Ind. / Valparaiso) placed eighth with a new personal-best time.

Hallie Roof-Hildreth (Jasper, Mich. / Sand Creek) rounded out point earners for the Thunder with an eighth-place finish in the pole vault.

Trine returns to competition next Saturday, Apr. 9 at the George Glass Invitational, hosted by Taylor University. Events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
