Thunder Women Notch Numerous Personal-Bests

ALLENDALE, Mich.-- Performances in a throwing event and distance event highlighted the efforts of the Trine women's track and field team in Grand Valley State's Al Owens Classic.

Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) wrapped up a strong weekend in throwing events with a third-place finish in the shot put. Her throw of 44 feet, 3.75 inches was best among Division III performers in the event. Eck's performance followed a third-place finish in the hammer throw yesterday.

The Thunder got personal-best performances from three runners who finished in the top 10 in the 5K. Kelsey Ortiz (Swanton, Ohio / Anthony Wayne) set a personal-record by 17 seconds with a time of 18:42.70 to place seventh. Samantha Stensland (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) finished eighth, beating her previous-best by nearly one minute. Kyla Binfet (West Yellowstone, Mont. / West Yellowstone) added a 10th-place finish, beating her previous PR by 30 seconds.

Jensyn Garrow (Archbold, Ohio / Archbold) added new personal-bests in the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter dashes. Lydia Walterhouse (Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble) notched a new PR in the 100-meter hurdles, while Hannah Blystone (Carmel, Ind. / Carmel) ran a new personal-best time in the 800-meter run.

Lydia Suchecki's (Spring Lake, Mich. / Spring Lake) performance in the high jump highlighted Trine's efforts elsewhere in the field. Suchecki cleared a height of 4 feet, 11.75 inches to tie for 11th.
