Thunder Women Looking for Success at Field Day

ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine women's track and field team will compete in MIAA Field Day Thursday and Friday at Olivet College.

The Thunder will be looking to improve upon its sixth-place finish in the conference outdoor championship last spring. Trine placed fifth in the inaugural MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships earlier this winter. The team returns one outdoor All-MIAA performer and features two additional student-athletes who earned all-conference honors during the indoor season.

Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) is once again expected to pace a strong core of Trine throwers. Eck has been one of the top throwers in the nation this season, ranking second in the country in the shot put and fourth in the hammer throw. Eck is a strong bet to earn a nationals bid in both events. Eck is a two-time Indoor All-American, who most-recently earned All-America honors during the indoor season for her performance in the shot put.

Jenn Steyer (Fenton, Mich. / Lake Fenton) makes up the other half of what has been a dominant hammer throw performance this spring. Steyer is second only to Eck in the conference and ranks 37th in the nation in the event. She leads the third-best MIAA performance by 11 feet. Steyer earned All-MIAA honors during the indoor season in the weight throw.

Lydia Suchecki (Spring Lake, Mich. / Spring Lake) is coming off All-MIAA honors in the high jump during the indoor season. Suchecki was the conference champion at the indoor championship meet and is ranked fifth in the MIAA during the outdoor season. Her top jump is less than two inches behind the top performer in the conference.

On the track, Jensyn Garrow (Archbold, Ohio / Archbold) gives the Thunder a threat to place in multiple events. Garrow is among the top 10 performers in the conference in the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter dashes.

Samantha Stensland (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern), Kyla Binfet (West Yellowstone, Mont. / West Yellowstone), Lacie Piekarski (Spring Lake, Mich. / Spring Lake), Kesley Ortiz (Swanton, Ohio / Anthony Wayne) and Courtney Forsythe (West Mansfield, Ohio / Benjamin Logan) will compete in distance events for the Thunder.

Field Day events begin Thursday, May 5 at Olivet College. Events are slated to begin at 1 p.m. Day one performances include several field events, preliminaries for sprint and hurdle events and the conference 10K championship. The rest of the meet wraps up Friday, May 6 with all remaining events.
