Eck Voted HERO Sports "Hero of the Week"

ANGOLA, Ind.-- Trine's Kara Eck has been voted the winner of HERO Sports "Hero of the Week" Award.

Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) earned more than 65 percent of the fan vote to receive the honor. The sophomore received the recognition for her performance in the Hillsdale GINA Relays, held April 29-30 at Hillsdale College. Eck set a new school record in the hammer throw at the event with a distance of 179 feet, 1 inch. She also placed third in the shot put at that meet.

Since that performance, Eck has captured conference titles in the hammer throw and shot put. Eck set MIAA records in both events at Field Day, which serves as the conference's outdoor track and field championship.

Eck's efforts the past two weeks have helped further solidify likely bids to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Waverly, Iowa. She is currently ranked second in the nation in the shot put and fifth in the hammer throw. Both performances put her on track for nationals bids and a shot at the national title in both events.

The national championship meet will be held May 26-28.
