FREELAND, Mich.-- Trine's Kara Eck was named the MIAA's Most Outstanding Field Performer, the conference announced Thursday.
Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) earned the honors for her performance in MIAA Field Day, which serves as the conference championship meet. The sophomore set MIAA records in the hammer throw and shot put to win both events. She was the only women's thrower to win multiple events in the meet. Eck also earned All-MIAA honors for her efforts. This is the second All-MIAA honor of her career. She has won three conference championships in the last two years.
The performances helped solidify what will likely be a second-straight trip to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships. Eck ranks second in the nation in the shot put and fifth in the nation in the hammer throw. She made a nationals appearance in the hammer throw last spring.
Eck's strong spring follows up an indoor campaign that saw her earn All-America honors for the second-consecutive season. Eck placed fourth in the shot put at the indoor national meet and also competed in the weight throw. Her All-America honors in the shot put this season added to resume that already included All-America honors in the weight throw during her freshman campaign.
The NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships will be held May 26-28 in Waverly, Iowa.
