Eck Earns USTFCCCA All-Region Honors

NEW ORLEANS-- Trine's Kara Eck has been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Great Lakes Region Outdoor Track & Field Team, the organization announced Tuesday.

The honor is the latest in a season of accolades earned by Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb). The sophomore received All-Region recognition for her performance in both the shot put and hammer throw. Eck will compete in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in both events this weekend. To be named All-Region, a student-athlete must either be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to final TFRRS data or be part of a top-3 relay team.

Eck enters the national meet seeded second in the shot put and seventh in the hammer throw. he NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships are being held Thursday-Saturday, May 26-28 at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. This will be Eck's second trip to the national outdoor meet.

Eck's previous awards during the outdoor season include being named HERO Sports "Hero of the Week", earning Most Outstanding Women's Field Athlete honors at MIAA Field Day and three MIAA Field Athlete of the Week honors. She set MIAA records in the shot put and hammer throw at Field Day.

During the indoor season, Eck earned All-America honors after placing fourth in the shot put at the national meet. Eck also earned Indoor All-America honors in the weight throw as a freshman.

The shot put national championship will begin Friday at noon CST. The finals of the hammer throw begin Saturday at 11:30 a.m. CST.
