ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine women's track and field team set one school record and notched seven first-place finishes in the Keith Turner Alumni Invitational, held Saturday in Keith E. Busse / Steel Dynamics Athletic Recreation Center.
Kaylyn Forrest (Cassopolis, Mich. / Ross-Beatty) highlighted the performance of the Thunder by setting a new school record in the 60-meter dash. Forrest ran a time of 8.12 seconds to win the event, beating the mark set by teammate and fellow freshman Hope Scholma (Montpelier, Ohio / Montpelier) earlier this season. Scholma placed third in the event with a time of 8.33 seconds.
The duo of Jenna Gales (Mendon, Mich. / Mendon) and Jensyn Garrow (Archbold, Ohio / Archbold) combined to take home the top two spots in two events. Gales took first in the 300-meter dash with a time of 42.07 seconds, with Garrow following in 43.11 seconds. Gales also narrowly edged Garrow in the 600-meter run with a 1:39.28 time, just ahead of Garrow's 1:39.40. Each runner was within one second of school record in the 600-meter run.
Ashlyn Maskow (Howe, Ind. / Lakeland) rounded out the first-place finishes in sprint events by winning the 60-meter hurdles. The freshman's 10.58-second time was a personal-best.
Forrest, Maskow, Scholma and Massie Jo Maskow (Howe, Ind. / Lakeland) combined to win the 4-x-400-meter relay. The quartet of runners finished in 4:20.32 to win by 10 seconds.
Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) accounted for Trine's final two first-place finishes on the day. Eck won the shot put with a toss of 42 feet, 5 inches to win the event by five feet. Eck also topped the field in the weight throw with a distance of 54 feet, 4.5 inches. Jenn Steyer (Fenton, Mich. / Lake Fenton) placed third in the weight throw with a distance of 49 feet, 11.25 inches.
Elsewhere on the track, Kelsey Ortiz (Swanton, Ohio / Anthony Wayne) set a personal-best in the Mile run with a time of 5:35.11. Lacie Piekarski (Spring Lake, Mich. / Spring Lake) added a personal-record 5:37.39 to place fifth in the event.

Trine returns to action Friday, Jan. 27 when the Thunder host the Don and Riley Zimmer Indoor Classic. Events are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
