Eck Earns MIAA Field Athlete of the Week Honors

FREELAND, Mich. -- Trine's Kara Eck has been named the MIAA Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) won the shot put and weight throw in Saturday's Keith Turner Alumni Invitational. The junior came away with a toss of 42 feet, 5 inches (12.81 meters) in the shot put to win the event by five feet. Eck's winning toss in the weight throw was measured at 54 feet, 4.5 inches (16.57 meters). Eck is being honored as Field Athlete of the Week for the first time this season.

A two-time Indoor All-American, Eck is well-positioned to make a return to the NCAA Division III Track and Field National Championships this season. She is ranked sixth in the nation in the weight throw and 20th in the shot put. Eck has earned one Indoor All-American honor in each event, most-recently placing fourth in the shot put at last winter's indoor national meet.

Trine returns to action Friday, Jan. 27 when the Thunder host the Don and Riley Zimmer Indoor Classic in Keith E. Busse / Steel Dynamics Recreation Center. Events are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
