Thunder Women Set Three School Records at IWU Midwest Classic

MARION, Ind. -- Members of the Trine women's track and field team set three school records in the Indiana Wesleyan University Midwest Classic, held Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan Indoor Sports Complex.

Freshman Jenna Gales (Mendon, Mich. / Mendon) set two school records to lead Thunder performers on the track. Gales ran a time of 58.55 seconds to place third in the 400-meter dash to a set a new program-best mark. At the time of writing, the mark ranked 16th in NCAA Divsion III this season. Gales' new school-record time in the 200-meter dash clocked in at 26.71 seconds, good enough for third place in the meet. Gales also set a new personal-best in the 60-meter dash at 8.24 seconds.

For the second consecutive week, Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) set a new school mark in the weight throw. Eck's toss of 17.62 meters (57 feet, 9.75 inches) was good enough for first place. Eck remains in seventh-place in the nation in the event. The junior also won the shot put with a throw of 13.18 meters (43 feet, 3 inches). The shot put throw moved Eck into a tie for 14th in the nation.

Jenn Steyer (Fenton, Mich. / Lake Fenton) added a second-place finish in the weight throw. The senior unleashed a throw of 15.81 meters (51 feet, 2.75 inches). Her throw was 0.61 meters ahead of third-place, giving the Thunder the top two performers in a field of NCAA Divisions I, II, and NAIA competitors.

Elsewhere on the track, Hannah Blystone (Carmel, Ind. / Carmel) notched a new personal-best time of 2:27.14 in the 800-meter run. The sophomore's performance placed her third in the event. Kelsey Ortiz (Swanton, Ohio / Anthony Wayne) added a fifth-place finish in the Mile run.

The 4-x-400-meter relay team, made up of Jensyn Garrow (Archbold, Ohio / Archbold), Gales, Kaylyn Forrest (Cassopolis, Mich. / Ross-Beatty) and Ashlyn Maskow (Howe, Ind. / Lakeland) placed fifth. Garrow added an eighth-place finish in the 200-meter dash, also eclipsing the previous school-record in the process. Forrest notched a personal-best in the 200-meter event as well.

Trine returns to action Saturday, Feb. 11 in the Taylor Invitational. Events are slated to begin at 10:30 a.m.
