ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Trine's Kelsey Ortiz set a new personal-best in the 5,000-meter run at Grand Valley State University's Big Meet.
Ortiz (Swanton, Ohio / Anthony Wayne) flew past her previous personal-best indoor 5K time by 22 seconds. The senior crossed the finish line in 18:35.13. Ortiz has now run sub-19 minute times in back-to-back races, the first two times she has accomplished that feat on an indoor track.
Lacie Piekarski (Spring Lake, Mich. / Spring Lake) also competed in the meet for the Thunder. The sophomore ran a time of 19:18.37 in the 5,000-meter run.
Trine will compete in the Taylor Invitational tomorrow. Events are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
