Gales Sets School Record at Taylor Invitational

UPLAND, Ind. -- Trine women's track and field performers combined to set one school record and notch one first-place finish in the Taylor Invitational, held Saturday at Kelser Fieldhouse.

For the second consecutive week, Jenna Gales (Mendon, Mich. / Mendon) set a school record in the 200-meter dash. The freshman ran a time of 26.45 seconds to beat her own school mark set last week by 0.26 seconds. Gales placed fourth in the event. Gales added a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.69 seconds.

Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) turned in another strong effort to win the weight throw, launching a throw of 17.38 meters (57 feet, 0.25 inches). Eck won the event by 1.33 meters. SHe added a third-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 12.88 meters (42 feet, 3.25 inches).

Jenn Steyer (Fenton, Mich. / Lake Fenton) added a third-place finish in the weight throw. Steyer's toss was 15.95 meters (52 feet, 4 inches). Steyer has placed in the top three in the weight throw at every meet this year. Her performance was 1.76 meters better than fourth place.

Jensyn Garrow (Archbold, Ohio / Archbold) added a pair of third-place finishes. The sophomore notched a time of 2:24.85 seconds in the 800-meter run.. She added a time of 1:00.35 in the 400-meter dash.

Kyla Binfet (West Yellowstone, Mont. / West Yellowstone) rounded out Trine's highlights on the track with a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter run. Binfet crossed the finish line in 10:59.54. The time represented an improvement of more than a minute since her first efforts in the event this winter.

Trine will compete in the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championship Saturday, Feb. 25 at Calvin College. Events are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
