ADA, Ohio -- Trine's Kara Eck won the weight throw and shot put in the Polar Bear Final Qualifier and Multi Saturday at Ohio Northern University.
Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) won the weight throw and shot put. In the weight throw, Eck unleashed a throw of 17.28 meters (56 feet, 8.25 inches) to earn the victory. She added a win in the shot put with a toss of 13.23 meters (43 feet, 5 inches).
Eck is ranked 13th in the nation in the weight throw and 21st in the shot put. The junior is poised for a return trip to the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships. The championship field will be announced Monday. The national meet takes place Mar. 10-11 at North Central College in Naperville, Ill.
Jenn Steyer (Fenton, Mich. / Lake Fenton) placed fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 16.51 meters (54 feet, 2 inches). Steyer was a hopeful to qualify for the national meet, but it appears her No. 21 national ranking will leave the senior just short of earning a bid.
