NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Trine's Kara Eck earned All-America honors in the weight throw at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships Friday at North Central College.
Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) placed seventh to earn the third Indoor All-America honor of her career. The junior unleashed a new school-record throw of 17.74 meters (58 feet, 2.5 inches) in the process. She entered the national meet seeded 13th in the event. Eck earned All-America honors in the weight throw for the second time in her career.
"Kara is a very hard worked and the results of her hard work continue to shine bright," said Rod Waters, head coach of the Trine track and field teams. "I'm very proud of what her and throws coach Amanda Cope have accomplished in gaining her fourth All-America award. Coach Cope deserves a lot of credit, as she continues to prepare athletes to compete at the national championships."
Eck's performance today capped off another strong indoor season for the junior. Eck was named the MIAA Most Valuable Field Athlete by a unanimous vote of the conference's coaches. She earned All-MIAA honors in both the shot put and weight throw and earned USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region honors in both events.
Eck has now earned a combined four All-America honors between the indoor and outdoor seasons. Eck's four All-America honors are tied with Tyler Bourdo (men's track and field, 2011-15) for the most by any student-athlete in any sport in school history.

The Trine women's track and field team opens the outdoor season Saturday, Mar. 18 at the Rose Hulman Early-Bird Invitational.
