CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Trine's Kara Eck and Jenn Steyer turned in a dominating performance in throwing events at the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Outdoor Open.

Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) won both the shot put and hammer throw. The junior's winning distance in the shot put was measured at 13.87 meters (45 feet, 6.25 inches). That was good enough for the win by nearly a full meter. She also won the hammer throw with a toss of 48.80 meters (160 feet, 1 inch), more than five meters better than the best non-Trine performer.

Steyer (Fenton, Mich. / Lake Fenton) placed second only to Eck in the hammer throw. The senior unleashed a throw of 46.70 meters (153 feet, 2 inches), which topped the third-place finisher by more than three meters.

The performances came in a field that included NCAA Division II and III and NAIA performers. There were 54 entries in the hammer throw and 46 in the shot put.

Trine returns to action next weekend at the Bellarmine Invitational. Events begin Friday, Mar. 31 at 1 p.m.
