Eck Named MIAA Field Athlete of the Week

FREELAND, Mich. -- Trine's Kara Eck has been named the MIAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced today.

Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) won both the shot put and hammer throw in Saturday's Yellowjacket Collegiate Outdoor Open at Cedarville University. The junior topped a field that included NCAA Division II, III and NAIA performers in both events. Eck's winning shot put throw was measured at 3.87 meters (45 feet, 6.25 inches), nearly a meter better than the second-place finisher. She won the hammer throw with a toss of 48.80 meters (160 feet, 1 inch), more than five meters better than the best non-Trine performer.

The performances marked a strong start to the outdoor season for Eck. She is currently ranked second in the nation in the shot put and ninth in the hammer throw. She leads the MIAA in both events.

Eck is looking to follow up an indoor campaign that saw her win the fourth All-American honor of her career. She placed seventh in the nation in the weight throw. Eck won All-American honors in the hammer throw last spring.

Trine travels to the Bellarmine Invitational this weekend. Events are scheduled to begin Friday, Mar. 31 at 1 p.m.
