LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The performance of Trine's throwers led the women's track and field team in the Bellarmine Invitational.
Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) notched the team's lone first-place finish with a win in the shot put. The junior set a new season-best with a throw of 13.25 meters (43 feet, 5.75 inches). The throw ranks fourth in the nation.
Eck also led a trio of strong performances in the hammer throw. She placed third with a season-best toss of 51.81 meters (170 feet), which ranks seventh in the nation. Jenn Steyer (Fenton, Mich. / Lake Fenton) notched a fourth-place finish in the event. The senior unleashed a throw of 46.97 meters (154 feet, 1 inch), which ranks 19th in the nation. Andrea Hagar (Goshen, Ind. / Fairfield) added a sixth-place finish with a throw of 40.63 meters (133 feet, 4 inches) in her first collegiate effort in the hammer throw.
Hagar's best performance of the day came in the discus, where she placed fifth. The freshman's throw of 38.87 meters (127 feet, 6 inches) is ranked 29th nationally.
Leading Trine's efforts on the track was Jensyn Garrow (Archbold, Ohio / Archbold), who placed third in the 800-meter run. Her time of 2:22.70 was a personal best and the best by a Thunder runner in the event this year.
Kyla Binfet (West Yellowstone, Mont. / West Yellowstone) notched a personal-best in the 5,000-meter run to place sixth. Binfet notched a time 18:16.24 and has set a new PR in each of her last two races in the event.
Hannah Blystone (Carmel, Ind. / Carmel) added a sixth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run, while Rebecca Flora (Greenfield, Ind. / Greenfield Central) placed sixth in the 400-meter dash. Kaylyn Forrest (Cassopolis, Mich. / Ross-Beatty) rounded things out with eighth-place finishes in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes.
Trine competed in a field made up largely of NCAA Division II performers.
