Eck Named MIAA Field Athlete of the Week

FREELAND, Mich. -- Trine's Kara Eck has been named the MIAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced today.

Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) won both of her events in leading the Thunder to a fourth-place finish in the Indiana Division III Championship. Eck set a meet record in the hammer throw with a distance of 55.11 meters (180 feet, 10 inches) to take first in that event. She won the shot put with a toss of 13.34 meters (43 feet, 9.25 inches). Eck earned Field Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this season.

The Indiana Division III Championship performance in the hammer throw vaulted Eck to the No. 6 ranking in the nation in the event. The junior is also ranked 15th in the nation in the shot put thanks to her performance over the weekend. Eck won All-America honors in the hammer throw last spring and has four combined All-America honors to her credit when factoring in both Indoor and Outdoor campaigns.

Trine returns to action Friday and Saturday, April 21-22 at Grand Valley State University's Al Owens Classic.
