Eck Earns Second Consecutive MIAA Weekly Honor

FREELAND, Mich. -- For the second consecutive week, Trine's Kara Eck has been named the MIAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) was honored by the conference for the third time during the outdoor season after a record-setting performance in the Indiana Little States Championship at Taylor University. The junior set a new program mark by nearly three meters in the hammer throw, unleashing a throw of 57.62 meters (189 feet) to take first in a field made up of NCAA Division II and NAIA competitors. The throw moved Eck into second in the NCAA Division III hammer throw rankings.

In addition to her performance in the hammer throw, Eck paced fourth in the shot put at the meet. Her throw of 13.36 meters (43 feet, 10 inches) was a season-best. The effort has Eck ranked 16th in the nation in the shot put.

Both of Eck's marks have her on track for a return trip to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships. This year's meet will be held May 25-27 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Eck won All-America honors in the hammer throw at last year's outdoor meet. She has earned four combined Indoor and Outdoor All-America honors in her career. Her next All-America honor will make her the most decorated All-American in any sport in school history.

Eck and the Thunder women's track and field team compete in the Hillsdale GINA Relays, April 27-29 at Hillsdale College.
