Throwers Have Successful Day at Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich. -- Throwers on the Trine women's track and field team achieved success in the Hillsdale GINA Relays Friday at Hillsdale College.

Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) won the hammer throw to highlight the efforts of the Thunder. Eck's throw of 57.72 meters (172 feet, 11 inches) topped a field that included NCAA Division I and II performers. She added a third-place finish in the shot put with a season-best toss of 13.48 meters (44 feet, 2.75 inches). The performance moved Eck into 13th in the nation in the event.

Jenn Steyer (Fenton, Mich. / Lake Fenton) placed ninth overall and third among NCAA Division III competitors in the hammer throw. Steyer launched a throw of 46.97 meters (154 feet, 1 inch). Steyer is ranked 20th in the nation in the hammer throw.

Andrea Hagar (Goshen, Ind. / Fairfield) notched a personal-best throw of 45.52 meters (149 feet, 4 inches) in the hammer throw. She placed 12th. Hagar added an 11th-place effort in the shot put.

The Hillsdale GINA Relays is one of the largest track and field meets in the midwest. The event features performers from all NCAA Divisions as well as the junior college and NAIA ranks.

Hagar returns to Hillsdale tomorrow to compete in the discus and javelin throw.
