NEW ORLEANS, LA. -- Trine University's senior women's athlete standout Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) has been selected as the Division III Women's National "Athlete of the Week" by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Eck was one of two Thunder women's competitors to travel to Findlay, Ohio this past weekend to take part in the Oiler Open hosted by the University of Findlay. Eck competed in the weight throw and finished second overall with a distance of 60' 6.50" (18.45m). Her mark broke her own school record which she set last season (57' 10.5") and is currently the top mark in all of NCAA Division III so far this season.
The mark was also a personal best for Eck in the weight throw.
The Trine track and field teams will be idle until Saturday, Jan. 20 when it hosts the Keith Turner Alumni Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
