Women's Track Places Sixth at Little State Championships

MARION, IND.  --  Senior Kyla Binfet (West Yellowstone, Mont./West Yellowstone) captured the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a school record time to lead the Trine University women's track and field team finished sixth overall at the Indiana Little State Championships hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind.

The Thunder finished with a team score of 59.5 points to place sixth out of 14 teams.  Indianapolis University came in first with 180 points and host school Indiana Wesleyan was second at 136.5 points.  Taylor University was third with a score of 123 points.

Binfet recorded a time of 11:26.29 to win the event, setting a school record and surpassing her own all-time mark by over two seconds (11:28.41) which she set last May.  The Thunder also had another individual place in the top-15 in freshman Stacey Dibley (Bristol, Ind./Elkhart Central) who placed 11th with a time of 12:48.39.

Freshman Evonne Bultemeyer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) posted a pair of top-three finishes in the 800-meter and 1,500-meter events.  Bultemeyer placed second in the 1500m run with a time of 4:47.58.  She placed third in the 800m run, crossing the finish line in a time of 2:20.84.

Junior Hannah Blystone (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) also competed in the 1500m and finished seventh in a time of 4:56.40.

Junior Lacie Piekarski (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) posted a top-10 effort in the 10,000-meter run and completed the race in a time of 40:12.23.

In the 400-meter dash, sophomore Kaylyn Forrest (Cassopolis, Mich./Ross-Beatty) led Trine with a 12th-place showing in a time of 1:04.83.

Sophomore Massie Jo Maskow (Howe, Ind./Lakeland) rounded out the top finishes in the running events with a 15th-place showing in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.19 seconds.

 

Freshman Jenny Flora (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield) posted an event win to lead the Thunder in the field events with a first-place finish in the javelin and a throw of 110' 6.00" (33.69 meters).  In addition, Flora competed in the discus and placed eighth with a toss of 124' 1.00" (37.84 meters).

Senior Kara Eck (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) ended the hammer throw event as the runner-up with a distance of 170' 9.00" (52.06 meters).  Sophomore Andrea Hagar (Goshen, Ind./Fairfield) also competed in the event and placed 14th after a best throw of 131' 6.00" (40.10 meters).

Hagar also competed in two other events that included the discus where she placed fourth following a throw of 131' 9.00" (40.17 meters) and in the javelin where she recorded a mark of 93' 2.00" (28.40 meters) which was good enough for ninth place.

Eck also finished fifth in the shot put where she recorded a distance of 41' 7.00" (12.67 meters).

Freshman Abigail Kuhlman (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) competed in both the pole vault and the long jump where she posted a pair of top finishes for the team that included a sixth-place tie in the pole vault where she cleared the bar in a height of 10' 2.00" (3.10 meters).  She also recorded a top-10 mark in the long jump where she recorded a best leap of 16' 1.75" (4.92 meters).

Trine is scheduled to compete in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Outdoor Championships on Thursday-Friday, May 3-4 hosted by Adrian College in Adrian, Mich.  The first day's events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
