GREENCASTLE, IND. -- The Trine University women's indoor track & field team placed second overall at the DePauw University Indoor Invitational in Greencastle, Ind.
The Thunder finished with 114.40 team points to place second of 12 schools. Hanover College took the team title with 124.70 points and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology rounded out the top three teams with 62.20 points.
Highlighting the field events was a runner-up finish in the weight throw by freshman Valerie Obear (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) who had a best distance of 48' 11.00". Trine also had two additional competitors finish in the top-10 with junior Andrea Hagar (Goshen, Ind./Fairfield) finishing third (47' 2.25") and freshman Stephanie Hartpence (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) placed 10th (39' 10.50").
In the long jump, senior Jensyn Garrow (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) and sophomore Abigail Kuhlman (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) both posted top-10 marks with Garrow finishing ninth after clearing the bar with a height of 14' 11.50" and Kuhlman was 10th with a best effort of 14' 10.75".
In addition to competing in the weight throw, Hartpence was the top finisher for Trine in the high jump with a best effort of 4' 8.25".
Trine had four athletes place in the top-10 in the pole vault in Kuhlman, freshmen Mackenzie Bristol (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West), Haley Bond (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge), and Autumn Presley (Pleasant Lake, Ind./Angola). Kuhlman both cleared the bar at 9' 9.25" with Kuhlman ultimately placing fifth and Bristol seventh. Bond and Presley both posted heights of 8' 9.50" and finished in a tie for eighth overall.
Finally, in the shot put, Hagar finished third in the shot put following a best toss of 37' 5.25" and freshman Anna Kmec (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) placed two spots back in fifth place after a toss of 34' 10.25".
In the running events, Trine had two individual event winners in freshman Chloe Brittain (Breckenridge, Mich./Breckenridge) and Garrow. Brittain posted the top overall time in the 800-meter run at 2:24.58 and Garrow was the first to cross the finish line in the 200-meter dash with a winning time of 26.78 seconds.
Brittain also had a runner-up finish in the mile run of 5:19.18.
Garrow was also one of five Trine athletes to qualify for the finals of the 60-meter dash and had a time of 8.26 seconds which was good enough for fourth place. Freshman Te"Shiya McCarter (Fort Wayne, Ind./Woodlan) had the top overall time for the Thunder in the event of 8.14 seconds and placed second overall. Fellow freshman Jasmine Carson (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) rounded out the top-five finishers in fifth with a time of 8.33 seconds.
In addition to Brittain's finish in the 800-meter run, three additional Trine runners recorded top-10 times in the event in sophomore Elizabeth Lohman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll), junior Massie Jo Maskow (Howe, Ind./Lakeland) and freshman Madi Howard (Stockbridge, Mich./Stockbridge). Lohman placed fourth with a time of 2:28.51, while Maskow finished in a tie for eighth at 2:34.68 and Howard was 10th in a time of 2:36.28.
Joining Garrow in the 200-meter dash and placing in the top-10 were juniors Hope Scholma (Montpelier, Ohio/Montpelier) and Kaylyn Forrest (Cassopolis, Mich./Ross-Beaty). Scholma ran a time of 27.84 seconds to finish ninth and Forrest finished just behind with a mark of 27.86 seconds to place 10th.
Freshman Morgan Spade (Waterloo, Ind./DeKalb) posted a top-five finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.88 seconds.
Sophomore Ruth Luebcke (Harlem, Ga./Crown Point) rounded out the top individual efforts in the running events with a sixth-place showing in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:19.66.
In addition, Trine had a winning relay team in the 4x400-meter relay. Garrow, Brittain, Lohman and McCarter combined efforts to record a time of 4:19.22 in the event to take top honors.
