Trine Competes at Taylor Invitational

UPLAND, IND.  --  The Trine University women's outdoor track and field team competed in the unscored George Glass Invitational hosted by Taylor University in Upland, Ind.

The Thunder had one event winner in the running events in sophomore Evie Bultemeyer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) who posted the top overall time in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:54.30.  Her time in the event was over 40 seconds faster than her nearest opponent and also broke the Trine record which was previously held by Kyla Binfet (11:26.29).

Junior Massie Jo Maskow (Howe, Ind./Lakeland) finished in the top-10 in a pair of events in the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles.  Maskow placed ninth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.07 seconds and then ran a time of 1:12.39 in the 400-meter hurdles which was the seventh-fastest time recorded.  

Sophomore Elizabeth Lohman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Caroll) also competed in the 400-meter hurdles along with Maskow and placed just behind in eighth place after completing the race in a time of 1:13.14.

Other top-10 performances included freshman Stephanie Hartpence (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) in the 400-meter dash and senior Lacie Piekarski (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) in the 5,000-meter run.  Hartpence ran a time of 1:04.83 in the 400-meter dash to place ninth overall and Piekarski had the seventh-quickest mark of 18:57.76 in the 5,000-meter run.

In addition to the individual running events, Trine had a top finish in the 4x400-meter relay.  Maskow, Lohman, Bultemeyer and freshman Madi Howard (Stockbridge, Mich./Stockbridge) posted a combined time of 4:15.87 which ended up being the second best time.

Highlighting the field events was the duo of junior Andrea Hagar (Goshen, Ind./Fairfield) and freshman Valerie Obear (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern).  Hagar placed in the top-10 in three events, including a pair of top-five finishes.  Hagar placed ninth in the shot put after a best throw of 37' 1.75" and then placed fourth in the discus with a mark of 123' 7.00" and fourth in the hammer throw with a best toss of 147' 0.00".  

Obear recorded a pair of top-five finishes in the discus and hammer.  Obear was third in the discus with a distance of 127' 4.00" and was runner-up in the hammer with a throw of 155' 9.00".

In addition to competing in the 400-meter dash, Hartpence took part in a pair of field events in the high jump and javelin.  In the high jump, she finished fifth after clearing the bar with a best height of 4' 7.75".  She went on to finish eighth in the javelin following a best throw of 92' 10.00".

Freshman Anna Kmec (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) also placed in the top-10 in the javelin with a sixth-place showing and a distance of 93' 3.00".

Rounding out the top placements in the field events was freshman Autumn Presley (Pleasant Lake, Ind./Angola) who placed fifth in the pole vault with a best effort of 9' 10.75".

Trine is scheduled to compete in the Indiana D3 Championships hosted by DePauw University next Saturday, Apr. 13 in Greencastle, Ind.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
