Women Claim Indiana D-III Championship Title

GREENCASTLE, IND.  -- The Trine University women's outdoor track and field team captured seven individual events, including setting multiple meet records and a track record, as the Thunder took the overall team title at the Indiana Division III Championships hosted by DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.

Trine finished with an overall team score of 190.5 points to finish as team champions.  Hanover College was second with 142.5 points and Earlham College was third at 99 points.

In the running events, the Thunder had one multi-event winner in sophomore Evie Bultemyer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) who won both the 800-meter and 1500-meter runs.  Bultemeyer crossed the finish line in a time of 2:11.32 in the 800m, setting a DePauw track record.  She went on to run a time of 4:32.54 in the 1500m to set a meet record in the event.

Also posting winning times were freshman Jasmine Carson (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) in the 400-meter dash (1:00.68) and senior Lacie Piekarski (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) in the 10,000-meter run (38:57.81).  In addition, Trine swept both relay events and set meet and school records in both.  The Thunder captured the 4x100-meter relay with a mark of 49.00 seconds and the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 4:01.09.

Freshman Te'Shiya McCarter (Fort Wayne, Ind./Woodlan) had a pair of top-three efforts in the sprinting events with a runner-up time of 12.65 seconds in the 100-meter dash and was third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.18 seconds.

Freshman Chloe Brittain (Breckenridge, Mich./Breckenridge) competed alongside Bultemeyer in the 800m and 1500m events and placed in the top five in both with a fourth-place showing in the 800m (2:20.71) and was third in the 1500m (4:44.57).  In addition, senior Hannah Blystone (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) also ran in the 1500m and was the third Thunder runner to finish in the top five with an effort of 4:56.66 which put her in fifth place overall.

Trine had a pair of top-five times in the 100-meter hurdles, led by freshman Morgan Spade (Waterloo, Ind./DeKalb) who placed third overall after running a time of 16.12 seconds.  Junior Massie Jo Maskow (Howe, Ind./Lakeland) also ran in the event and finished two spots back of Spade in fifth place after posting a mark of 17.10 seconds.

Maskow went on to also compete in the 400-meter hurdles and was fifth following a time of 1:10.97.  Senior Jensyn Garrow (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) finished just ahead of Maskow in third place with a time of 1:08.75, setting a school outdoor record

Sophomores Elizabeth Lohman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Caroll) and Stacy Dibley (Bristol, Ind./Elkhart Central) rounded out the top finishes in the running events by placing fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after recording times of 12:02.30 and 12:07.96. 

Freshman Valerie Obear (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) highlighted the day in the field events with a win in the discus following a toss of 132' 0.00" which was also a meet record.  Obear also finished as runner-up in the hammer throw following a mark of 151' 0.00".

Junior Andrea Hagar (Goshen, Ind./Fairfield) finished in the top-five in three events that included a pair of second-place finishes in the discus (128' 7.00") and the shot put (38' 9.00").  She also went on to place third in the hammer after recording a best effort of 150' 4.00".

Freshman Autumn Presley (Pleasant Lake, Ind./Angola) competed in the pole vault and finished in a tie for third overall after clearing the bar at a height of 9' 6.25". 

Fellow freshmen Kelsy Taylor (Louisville, Ky./New Albany) posted a best throw of 37' 9.25" in the shot put to come in fourth place and Anna Kmec (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) was also fourth in the javelin following a toss of 100' 0.00".

Trine is scheduled to travel to Westerville, Ohio to take part in the Otterbein University Invitational on Friday, Apr. 19.
