Trine Women Finish Third at Otterbein Twilight

WESTERVILLE, OHIO  --  The Trine University women's outdoor track and field team finished third overall at the Otterbein University Twilight Meet in Westerville, Ohio.

The Thunder finished with a team score of 110.5 points to place third of 13 teams.  Host school Otterbein finished first with a team score of 141 points and Wright State (Ohio) University was third with 116.5 points.  

Individually, the Thunder captured five events, including four in the field events.  Freshmen Valerie Obear (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) and Stephanie Hartpence (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) both won two events.  Obear won both the discus (113' 0.00") and the hammer (145' 11.00"), while Hartpence had winning marks in the javelin (88' 0.00") and the long jump (15' 6.00").  

Junior Andrea Hagar (Goshen, Ind./Fairfield) recorded a pair of top-five finishes with a third-place showing in the hammer (137' 1.00") and fourth in the shot put (36' 6.75").  

Other top-five finishes included freshman Anna Kmec (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) who was runner-up behind Hartpence in the javelin with a best effort of 86' 10.00".  Junior Massie Jo Maskow (Howe, Ind./Lakeland) was third in the long following a distance of 14' 9.25" and freshman Autumn Presley (Pleasant Lake, Ind./Angola) was fifth in the polue vault after posting a best height of 10' 0.00".  

Highlighting the running events was a first-place finish by sophomore Evie Bultemeyer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) in the 800-meter run with a mark of 2:17.17.

Sophomores Elizabeth Lohman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) and Stacy Dibley (Bristol, Ind./Elkhart Central) finished back-to-back in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.  Lohman completed the race in a time of 12:09.91 to place third overall and Dibley ran a time of 12:21.18 which was good enough for fourth place.

Freshman Te'Shiya McCarter (Fort Wayne, Ind./Woodlan) qualified for the finals of the 100-meter dash and placed fifth overall after crossing the finish line in a time of 12.93 seconds.

Trine is scheduled to compete in the three-day Hillsdale (Mich.) College Gina Relays that begins on Thursday, Apr. 25 in Hillsdale, Mich.  The day is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
