Trine Women Fourth After First Day of MIAA Outdoor Championship

HOLLAND, MICH.  --  The Trine University women's outdoor track and field team is currently in fourth place of seven teams after the first day of scored events at the 2019 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Outdoor Championship hosted by Hope College in Holland, Mich.

A total of four events were completed on the first day with Trine posting a team score of 21 points to currently sit in fourth place.  Albion (Mich.) College leads the team standings with 32 points and is followed by Calvin (Mich.) College in second place with 30 points.  Host school Hope rounds out te top three teams with 26 points.

Three of the four scored competitions came in the field events.  Junior Andrea Hagar (Goshen, Ind./Fairfield) scored team points in two of the events highlighted by a runner-up finish in the hammer throw with a best toss of 150' 3.00".  She went on to also compete in the shot put and placed seventh among the competitors with a throw of 38' 2.00".

The lone final in the running events was the 10,000-meter run.  The Thunder had one runner compete in the event in senior Lacie Piekarski (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) who placed third overall in a field of 12 total runners with a time of 38:03.55.

The two-day MIAA Outdoor Championships conclude tomorrow (Friday, May 3) at Hope College in Holland, Mich.  The first events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
