Bultemeyer & Obear Earn All-MIAA; Bultemeyer Named Track MVP

FREELAND, MICH.  --  Sophomore Evie Bultemeyer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) and freshman Valerie Obear (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) have earned All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association honors for their individual performances at the MIAA Outdoor Championship last week.  Bultemeyer was also named the MIAA Track "MVP."

After being named the track "Most Valuable Runner" at the MIAA Indoor Championship, Bultemeyer garnered the same honor for her efforts at the conference outdoor meet to sweep both awards for the calendar year.  Bultemeyer won both the 400 and 1500-meter runs and was the only runner to finish in under a minute in the 400m with a Trine outdoor record time of 58.50 seconds, two tenths of a second faster than her preliminary time.  Bultemeyer beat the previous school all-time mark by 16 one-hundredths of a second (58.66 seconds) which was held by Rebecca Flora and set in 2017.  In the 1500m, Bultemeyer fell just two one-hundreths of a second shy of the MIAA record with a time of 4:35.50 to become a first-time outdoor champion in the event.

In addition, Bultemeyer finished as a runner-up in the 800-meter run by less than a second over the event winner with a mark of 2:18.06.  She was also a member of the runner-up 4x400-meter relay team that recorded a combined time of 4:10.13.

Obear capped a standout freshman season for the Thunder by winning the individual title in the discus with a throw of 134' 9.00" setting a Trine outdoor record by an even 10 feet.  The previous mark was owned by Danielle Reenders which she set during the 2013 season.

Trine is scheduled to compete in the two-day Dr. Keeler Invitational on Thursday-Friday, May 9-10 hosted by North Central College in Naperville, Ill.  The first events on Thursday are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
