Women's Track & Field Finish Fifth at Snow Day Invitational

NAPERVILLE, ILL.  --  The Trine University women's track & field team traveled to Naperville, Ill. to take part in the Snow Day Invitational hosted by North Central (Ill.) College and placed fifth overall.

The Thunder posted a team score of 61 points to finish fifth of seven teams.  Host school North Central was first with 227 points and was followed by the University of St. Francis (Ill.) in second place with 109.5 points.  Concordia University Chicago rounded out the top three schools with 87.5 points.

Individually, Trine had one event winner in junior Evie Bultemeyer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) who won the mile run in a time of 4:59.94.  Joining her in the mile and placing in the top five was the duo of sophomore Chloe Brittain (Breckenridge, Mich./Breckenridge) and freshman Amira Faulkner (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook).  Brittain placed fourth after running a time of 5:26.47 and Faulkner finished a spot behind in fifth place after a time of 5:28.04.

Also on the track, sophomore Madi Howard (Stockbridge, Mich./Stockbridge) had the fourth quickest time in the 800-meter run of 2:34.26.

In the 3000-meter run, three runners placed in the top 10 and took sixth through eight places with freshman Alli Smith (Temperance, Mich./Temperance Bedford) taking sixth in a time of 10:58.27.  Junior Elizabeth Lohman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) was seventh (11:07.03) and fellow junior Megan Theismann (Ossian, Ind./Norwell) was eighth (11:28.16).

Senior Massie Jo Maskow (Howe, Ind./Lakeland) qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles and finished eighth overall following a mark of 10.13 seconds.

In addition, the women had a third-place showing in the 4x400-meter relay with the team of Brittain, sophomore Stephanie Hartpence (Elkhart, Ind./Concord), Bultemeyer and Faulkner combining to record a time of 4:12.58.

Sophomore Valerie Obear (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) and freshman Lia Vawter (Franklin, Ind./Franklin) had the top finishes for Trine in the field events with a pair of third-place efforts in the weight throw and high jump.  Obear had a mark of 52' 11.00" in the weight throw and Vawter cleared the bar at a height of 4' 9.75" in the high jump.

Freshman Madelyn Summers (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) also competed in the weight throw and placed ninth after a toss of 40' 8.25".  

In addition to her running events, Hartpence also recorded a pair of top-10 finishes in the high jump and long jump.  Hartpence placed just behind Vawter in the high jump of fourth place at a height of 4' 7.75" and was 10th in the long jump with a distance of 14' 9.75."

Maskow also pulled double-duty competing in the field events and was ninth overall in the long jump with a best leap of 14' 11.25."

Sophomore Anna Kmec (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) and Summers completed the list of top placers for Trine with a fifth and sixth-place effort in the shot put.  Kmec recorded a distance of 34' 11.25" to take fifth and Summers was sixth following a throw of 34' 11.25."

The women's track & field team will next compete in the Mike Lints Alumni Open hosted by Grand Valley State (Mich.) University on Saturday, Feb. 1 in Allendale, Mich.  The day is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
