Trine Women Compete at the GVSU Mike Lints Alumni Open

ALLENDALE, MICH.  --  The Trine University women's indoor track & field team competed in the unscored Mike Lints Alumni Open hosted by Grand Valley State (Mich.) University in Allendale, Mich.

Highlighting the day was junior Evie Bultemeyer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) who finished with the top overall time in the 3000-meter run against opponents from Division II, III and NAIA schools with a school record-setting time of 10:00.81.  Her time improved her own indoor record in the event by over 30 seconds (10:33.70) which she set last February.

The Thunder also had an impressive showing in the 5000-meter run with two runners placing in the top five.  Freshman Alli Smith (Temperance, Mich./Temperance Bedford) led the way with a runner-up time of 18:32.34.  Junior Elizabeth Lohman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) finished two spots back in fourth place after running a time of 18:34.87.

Sophomore Chloe Brittain (Breckenridge, Mich./Breckenridge), freshman Amira Faulkner (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) and sophomore Madi Howard (Stockbridge, Mich./Stockbridge) all finished in the top 20 in the 800-meter run with Brittain posting the top overall mark for the team of 2:19.03 and placed eighth overall.  Faulkner had a mark of 2:27.91 which was good enough for 14th place and Howard followed in a time of 2:30.76 to place 16th.

Rounding out the top performances on the track was a top-25 effort by sophomore Stephanie Hartpence (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) who ran a time of 1:03.85 in the 400-meter dash which put her in 24th place overall.

In the field events, sophomore Valerie Obear (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) had the best finish for the Thunder in the weight throw by placing fourth after a best effort of 54' 7.50."

Sophomore Autumn Presley (Pleasant Lake, Ind./Angola) finished in the top 15 in the pole vault in a height of 9' 8.00" and was good enough for 14th place out of 26 competitors in the event.

In the shot put, sophomore Anna Kmec (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) threw for a distance of 33' 9.25" to rank 20th among her opponents.

Trine is scheduled to compete at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich. at the two-day Wide Track Classic next weekend (Fri-Saturday, Feb. 7-8).  The first events on Friday are set to begin at noon.
