Thunder Women's Track & Field Compete at Wide Track Classic

HILLSDALE, MICH.  --  The Trine University women's indoor track & field team competed in the unscored Wide Track Classic hosted by Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich.

Trine competed against schools from NCAA Division II, III and NAIA.  The top finish on the track came in the 800-meter run championship race with junior Evie Bultemeyer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) who placed second in a time of 2:13.43.  

In the mile run, freshman Amira Faulkner (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) placed in the top-five after running a time of 5:26.36.  She was joined in the top-15 by sophomore Madi Howard (Stockbridge, Mich./Stockbridge) who crossed the finish line at 5:43.57 to place 15th.

In the relays, the team of Bultemeyer, sophomore Stephanie Hartpence (Elkhart, Ind./Concord), sophomore Chloe Brittain (Breckenridge, Mich./Breckenridge) and junior Elizabeth Lohman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) won the distance medley with a time of 12:18.83.  The Thunder also had a second team place in the top-10 with junior Megan Theismann (Ossian, Ind./Norwell), senior Massie Jo Maskow (Howe, Ind./Lakeland), Faulkner and freshman Alli Smith (Temperance, Mich./Temperance Bedford) posting an overall time of 13:12.56 which was good enough for seventh place.

In the 4x400-meter relay, Hartpence, Bultemeyer, Faulkner and Brittain recorded the sixth-best mark of 4:13.28.

Leading the Thunder in the field events was Hartpence who was 11th in the high jump after clearing a best height of 4' 9.75."  Freshman Lia Vawter (Franklin, Ind./Franklin) competed alongside Hartpence in the event and placed 15th overall with a height of 4' 6.00."

Sophomroe Valerie Obear (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) rounded out the best performances for Trine of 13th place in the weight throw thanks to a toss of 46' 10.25."

Trine will travel to Greencastle, Ind. to compete in the DePauw University Invitational next Saturday, Feb. 15.  The first events are slated to start at 11 a.m.
