Bultemeyer and Obear Qualify for Indoor Nationals

ANGOLA, IND.  --  Junior Evie Bultemeyer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) and sophomore Valerie Obear (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) will both represent Trine University at the 2020 NCAA Division III Indoor Championship that will be held at the JDL Fast Track facility in Winston-Salem, N.C. this weekend.

Bultemeyer will compete in the mile and enters the event with a top-ranked time in Division III at 4:56.18.  This will be the second straight year that Bultemeyer has qualified for the NCAA Indoor Meet in the mile and finished fourth overall (4:53.48) to earn All-American honors.  Bultemeyer won three individual events at this year's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Indoor Championship that included the 400-meter dash, the 800-meter dash and mile run and was also part of a winning relay team.  In the 400m, she posted a winning time of 59.08 seconds and then had a top overall mark of 2:17.59 in the 800m.  She capped her individual day on the track with a time of 5:08.27 in the mile to take top honors.  She was then part of a Trine team that finished with the top overall time of 4:12.58 in the 4x400-meter relay.  Following the meet, she repeated as the MIAA Indoor "Most Valuable Runner" and earned All-Conference honors in each event.

Obear qualified for the national indoor meet for the first time in her collegiate career after recording the 16th best distance recorded this season in the weight throw at 56' 10.00."  Her mark came at the MIAA Championship where she finished as the individual event champion and garnered All-MIAA status.

The NCAA Indoor Championship begins on Friday, Mar. 13 and will conclude on Saturday (Mar. 14).  Both will compete on Friday with the weight throw that is set to begin at 10 a.m. and Bultemeyer will run in the prelims of the mile run later in the day at 2:20 p.m.  The finals of the mile will then be held on Saturday at 2:40 p.m.
