Thunder Place Second at Home Meet

ANGOLA, IND.  --  The Trine University women's indoor track & field team placed second of four teams in a home meet hosted at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center in Angola, Ind.

The Thunder finished with a team score of 168 points to place second overall.  Hope (Mich.) College captured the team title with 174 points and Alma (Mich.) College was third at 88 points.

Trine faired well in the field events that were highlighted by four winners in the weight throw, high jump, triple jump and the pole vault.  Freshman Haley Livingston (Fort Worth, Texas/Everman) had a standout day winning the triple jump with a distance of 33' 6.75" and then also placed runner-up in the long jump following a best attempt of 16' 6.00".  Livingston also competed on the track in the 60-meter hurdles and finished with a time of 9.66 seconds to take second place in the event.

In both the high jump and pole vault, the Thunder took first thru third place with sophomore Lia Vawter (Franklin, Ind./Franklin) winning the high jump (4' 11.75") and junior Autumn Pressley (Pleasant Lake, Ind./Angola) capturing the pole vault (10' 4.00").  

Also in the high jump, freshman Kit Kirkpatrick (Bristol, Ind./Northridge) and junior Stephanie Hartpence (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) took second and third place with marks of 4' 9.75" and 4' 7.75", respectively.  

Freshman Andrea Rodeheffer (Minster, Ohio/Fort Loramie) placed second behind Pressley in the pole vault after clearing the bar at a height of 10' 0.00" and junior Mackenzie Bristol (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) followed in third place at a height of 9' 0.25".

Junior Valerie Obear (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) completed the list of winners in the throwing events by taking first in the weight throw thanks to a toss of 53' 3.50". 

Senior Megan Theismann (Ossian, Ind./Norwell) headlined the day for Trine on the track with a win in the 5000-meter run in a time of 18:01.41.  She went on to finish second in the 3000-meter run to lead the Thunder and clipped the tape in a time of 11:45.04.  Also in the 3000m, senior Elizabeth Lohman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) finished two one-hundredths of a second behind Theismann to grab third with a mark of 11:45.06.

Other top efforts included three third-place finishes in the mile run, 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash.  Freshman Ana Parker (White Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) led Trine in the mile after completing the event in a time of 5:58.51.  Fellow freshman Kennedi Sternberg (Kouts, Ind./Kouts) posted the third overall quickest time in the 60-meter dash at 8.27 seconds, and Hartpence ran a time of 28.59 seconds in the 200-meter dash which was good enough for third place.

The Trine women's track & field team is scheduled to host the MIAA Jamboree next Saturday, Feb. 20 in Angola.  The day is set to begin at 10 a.m.
