Trine Women's Indoor Track & Field Captures MIAA Jamboree

ANGOLA, IND.  --  The Trine University women's indoor track & field team captured its second meet title of the season by winning the Women's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree hosted by Trine at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center in Angola, Ind.

Trine posted an overall team score of 201 points to lead four other teams competing in the event.  Hope (Mich.) College was second with 143.5 points and was followed by Albion (Mich.) College to round out the top three at 116 points.

The Thunder had a big day in the field events, winning four out of six, and set one school indoor record.  Trine also had multiple first and second place finishes.

Junior Valerie Obear (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) took home the event title in the weight throw thanks to a best toss of 51' 5.50".  Teammate Madelyn Summers (Kendallville, Ind/East Noble) finished third at a distance of 44' 10.25."  The duo also competed in the shot put and Summers threw a runner-up toss of 37' 11.25" and Obear was third following a throw of 36" 11.00".

In the long jump, freshman Haley Livingston (Forth Worth, Texas/Everman) posted a school record with a winning mark of 16' 8.50".  She improved upon the all-time mark set by Miranda Iles in January of 2010 of 16" 7.00".  In addition to Livingston, fellow freshman Kennedi Sternberg (Kouts, Ind./Kouts) competed and finished second after a leap of 16" 6.50".  

Livingston's day didn't stop with her record-setting effort in the long jump, she also went on to win the triple jump with a mark of 32' 3.75" and then competed on the track and grabbed first place in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in a time of 9.62 seconds.

Sophomore Autumn Presley (Pleasant Lake, Ind./Angola) and freshman Andrea Rodeheffer (Minster, Ohio/Fort Loramie) continue to be an impressive tandem in the pole vault with Presley taking first place this afternoon in the event at a height of 9' 8.00".  Rodeheffer cleared the bar at 9' 2.25" to finish as the runner up.

Freshman Lia Vawter (Franklin, Ind./Franklin) took top honors in the high jump with a best effort of 4' 9.75".  Junior Stephanie Hartpence (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) placed second in the same event at a height of 4' 7.75".

On the track, senior Megan Theismann (Ossian, Ind./Norwell) captured two events, starting with posting the top overall mark in the 3000-meter run of 10:19.65.  She then continued her success in the distance events by coming in first in the mile run at 5:17.23.  Senior Elizabeth Lohman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) competed alongside Theismann in both events and placed second in the 3000m (10:28.73) and third in the mile (5:28.23).

In addition to competing in the long jump, Sternberg turned to the track and posted a runner-up finish in the 60-meter dash of 8.14 seconds.

Rounding out the top three individual performances on the day was freshman Marissa Kenney (South Bend, Ind./J.W. Riley) who placed third in the 800-meter run after recording a time of 2:35.37.

Trine is set to host its final meet of the season next Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center.  The day is scheduled to begin at noon.
