Women's Indoor T&F Win Home Meet

ANGOLA, IND.  --  The Trine University women's indoor track & field team won its third home meet of the season today at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center in Angola, Ind.

The Thunder posted a winning score of 194 points to finish first of four teams.  Alma (Mich.) College was second with 104 points and Olivet (Mich.) College was third with 70 points.

Freshman Haley Livingston (Fort Worth, Texas/Everman) had a big day for Trine both on the track and in the field events, highlighted by a school record leap in the long jump.  Livingston had a mark of 17' 4.25" to capture the long jump and also improved upon her own school record that she set at last week's MIAA Jamboree (16' 8.50").  Additionally, teammate Kennedi Sternberg (Kouts, Ind./Kouts) competed alongside Livingston in the long jump and also bettered Livingston's previous school record with a leap of 17' 2.75" before Livingston recorded her best jump.  Sternberg's mark put her in second place in the event.

The duo then posted the top-two marks in the 200-meter dash, but this time it was Sternberg who posted the top overall time of 27.13 seconds, followed by Livingston in second place in a time of 27.33 seconds.  Overall, a total of four Trine runners placed in the top-five in the event led by Sternberg and Livingston.

Also on the track, Livingston went on to capture the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.66 seconds and Sternberg finished first in the 60-meter dash with a winning time of 8.07 seconds.

Trine went on to win three additional running events in the mile, 400-meter dash and the 800-meter run.  Freshman Ana Parker (White Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) had the fastest overall time in the mile (5:48.00), junior Stephanie Hartpence (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) won the 400m (1:03.56) and sophomore Amira Faulkner (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) came in first in the 800m run (2:27.70).  Also in the 800m, junior Chloe Brittain (Breckenridge, Mich./Breckenridge) finished a close second, just 19 one-hundreths of a second behind Faulkner at 2:27.89.

Other event winners in the field events included sophomore Lia Vawter (Franklin, Ind./Franklin) in the high jump with a best height of 4' 9.75".  Junior Autumn Presley (Pleasant Lake, Ind./Angola) and freshman Andrea Rodeheffer (Minster, Ohio/Fort Loramie) finished both cleared the bar at 10' 2.00" in the pole vault, but Presley took top honors by judge's decision and Rodeheffer placed second.

Freshman Kit Kirkpatrick (Bristol, Ind./Northridge) took the top finish in the triple jump with a distance of 32' 2.00" and teammate Alex Howard (Knightstown, Ind./Knightstown) followed in second place with a mark of 31' 7.25".

Junior Valerie Obear (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) had a pair of runner-up efforts in the weight throw (50' 2.50") and the shot put (38' 11.75").  In addition, sophomore Madelyn Summers (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) also competed in the shot put and recorded a best toss of 38' 9.50" to place third overall.

 

The Trine women's track & field team will next compete in the MIAA Championhip next Saturday, Mar. 6.  Calvin (Mich.) University will serve as host of the women's events with a start time yet to be announced.
