Two Earn All-American Status for Women's Track & Field

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Trine University women's track and field program had a pair of student-athletes earn All-American status by finishing top-eight in their events at the 2021 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

First up for the Thunder was senior Evie Bultemeyer (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead) who became an All-American for the fifth time in her track and field career and sixth overall. On Thursday, Bultemeyer qualified for the finals of the 1500 meter race as the tenth seed with a 4:37.33 finish.

Today Bultemeyer would finish sixth in the finals of the race on the back of a 4:30.94 performance.

"With her sixth-place finish today, Evie becomes one of the most decorated student-athletes in Trine history," said Head Coach Josh Fletcher, "I'm very proud of how she has overcome the obstacles to earn her sixth All-American honor and I am excited for her season next year."

Junior Valerie Obear (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) captured the first All-American honor of her career by finishing third in the Hammer Throw. On her third attempt of six during the finals she posted a 51.86m throw to secure third place.

I am very proud of how mentally strong Valerie was today," said Assistant Coach in charge of throws Amanda Cope, "To compete through a weather delay and throw tough throwing conditions and still turn in an impressive result. She had a game plan and executed it perfectly."

The third-place finish is the highest by a Trine women's track and field student-athlete in the program's NCAA history. Three student-athletes had finished in fourth coming into today.
