Thunder Win Indiana DIII Championships; Evie Miller Named Most Outstanding Women's Track Athlete

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Trine University women's track and field team were victors in the 2022 Indiana DIII Championships on Saturday, topping six other Indiana NCAA DIII schools.

The Thunder had a team score of 191, beating second place DePauw by 21 points.

Evie Miller [Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead] secured a top finish for Trine in two different events and was named Most Outstanding Women's Track Athlete at the event. Miller went 2:11.57 in the 800-meter run and secured a first-place time of 4:27.69 in the 1500-meter run.

Haley Livingston [Fort Worth, Texas / Everman] was also a heavy contributor for the Thunder on the day. She was the top scorer in four different events for the team, including event wins in the 100-meter hurdles (14.86 seconds) and long jump (5.33 meters / 17' 6.00"). The hurdle time breaks her own school record set earlier this week. She also finished second overall in the 200-meter dash (25.91 seconds) and 100-meter dash (12.53 seconds).

Also knocking on the door of a new school record was Autumn Presley [Pleasant Lake, Ind. / Angola] in the pole vault. Presley hit a height of 3.15 meters (10' 4.00") to tie her own school record mark.

Valerie Obear [Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern] was the third Trine student-athlete to win multiple events: the discus and hammer throw. Obear won the discus with a score of 43.09 meters (141' 4.00") and the hammer throw at 56.60 meters (185' 8.00").

Stephanie Hartpence [Elkhart, Ind. / Concord] scored the most Thunder points in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.13, and was also involved in the 4x400 meter relay team which finished fourth. Hartpence was joined by Paige McGonigal [Coventry Twp., Ohio / Coventry], Anissa Rios [Chandler, Ariz. / Corona del Sol] and Marissa Kenney [South Bend, Ind. / J.W. Riley] to finish at 4:27.87.

The Thunder were 1-2 in the 5000-meter run with Lydia Randolph [Jefferson, Ohio / Edgewood Senior] at 18:29.02 and Alli Smith [Temperance, Mich. / Temperance Bedford] at 18:35.91. Hannah Parker [New Whiteland, Ind. / Whiteland Community] and Cassandra Meyer [Elgin, Ill. / Elgin] were top finishers in the 3000-meter steeplechase and 10000-meter run. Parker was third in the steeple (12:52.94) and Meyer fifth in the 10000 (43:23.44).

Other field events saw Lia Vawter [Franklin, Ind. / Franklin] secure a runner-up finish in the high jump (1.44 meters / 4' 8.75"), Madelyn Summers [Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble] place fifth in the shot put (11.80 meters / 38' 8.75") and Malena Ricks [Toledo, Ohio / Toledo Start] notch a fifth-place finish in the javelin (33.13 meters / 108' 8.00").

The Little State Championships take place on Friday, April 22 and Saturday, April 23 for the team's next event.
