Thunder Score a Third-Place Finish at the Outdoor Championships

ALBION, Mich. – The Trine University women's track and field team competed in day two of the 2022 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday. They placed third overall with a team score of 156.

Hope College was the team champion at 192 with hosts Albion College in second at 171 points.

The Thunder won four events on day two, three of which came from Haley Livingston [Fort Worth, Texas / Everman]. She was first in the high jump at 11.20 meters (36' 9.00") and set a new school record in the event. She also broke the school record mark with a race-winning time in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.50) and won the 100-meter hurdle event (14.99 seconds).

Evie Miller [Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead] secured her 14th MIAA Championship in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:31.44. Amira Faulkner [Bellbrook, Ohio / Bellbrook] scored a point in the event as well with an eighth-place 4:57.74. Miller was second overall in the 800-meter run as well at 2:13.78.

Malena Ricks [Toledo, Ohio / Toledo Start] was credited with a second-place finish in the javelin at 33.41 meters (109' 7.25"). Katie Berlew [Fremont, Ind. / Fremont] was seventh in the event with a throw of 28.29 meters (92' 9.75").

Both relay teams finished third for Trine. The 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Mackenzie Miller [Paw Paw, Mich. / Paw Paw], Stephanie Hartpence [Elkhart, Ind. / Concord], Mallory Wood [Goshen, Ind. / Goshen] and Paige McGonigal [Coventry Twp., Ohio / Coventry] finished with a time of 50.22 seconds. Hartpence, Livingston, McGonigal and Evie Miller made up the 4x400-meter relay team, which earned a time of 4:04.69.

Hartpence and McGonigal were also featured in the 400-meter dash. Hartpence finished fourth (1:03.60) while McGonigal was seventh in the race (1:04.97).

Lydia Randolph [Jefferson, Ohio / Edgewood Senior] led a group of three in the 5000-meter run. She was fifth with a time of 18:13.24, while Alli Smith [Temperance, Mich. / Temperance Bedford] placed sixth at 18:19.39 and Chloe Goodrich [Burlington, Ind. / Carroll] eighth at 18:38.02.

In the discus, Chloe Bard [Montpelier, Ohio / Montipelier] was a fifth-place finisher at 34.78 meters (114' 1.25") and Valerie Obear [Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern] was eighth with a throw of 32.87 meters (107' 10.00").

Mackenzie Miller crossed the line sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.28 seconds and Wood scored a point as well with an eighth-place time of 13.35 seconds.

Trine will enter the Saint Francis Fighting Chance on May 13-14 to get a last chance for athletes to qualify for nationals.
