Indoor Championships Conclude with Trine Women Third

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's track and field team placed third overall at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Indoor Track and Field Championships. Ahead of the Thunder, who totaled 97.5 points, were champions Hope College at 211 points and Calvin University with 105 points.

Mackenzie Miller led the way for the Thunder in both sprint events. She finished second in the 60-meter dash (7.92 seconds) and third in the 200-meter dash (26.51 seconds). Her time in the 60-meter dash is .01 of a second off the school record mark. Malena Ricks was sixth in the 60 (8.24 seconds) and Kaleigh Maschino eighth in the 200 (27.66). The 60-meter hurdles saw Brynn Mericle score a second-place time of 9.64 seconds.

In middle distance events, Marissa Kenney was the best finishing Trine student-athlete in the 800-meter run at 2:23.63, good for fifth. Emily Wahl was seventh in the race at 2:24.52. The mile run saw Amira Faulkner place fifth overall at 5:15.63 and Ana Parker secure a seventh-place finish at 5:20.28. Parker also had a seventh-place finish in the 3000-meter run for the team (10:47.01). The 5000-meter run saw Lydia Randolph finish fifth at 18:46.80 and Brianna Medcalf sixth at 18:48.47.

The relay teams scored decent points for the team with a second-place finish in the distance medley relay and a third-place spot in the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Bailey Puckett, Anissa Rios, Eleanor Young and Hannah Parker rattled off a time of 13:22.92 in the distance medley relay and a squad consisting of Mericle, Adrianne Jackson, Wahl and Kristin Baker went 4:17.02 in the 4x400-meter relay.

Morgan Moslow tied the school record mark in the pole vault at 3.20 meters (10' 6.00"). She placed third in the conference and Avery Boyce was sixth (3.10 meters / 10' 2.00"). The Thunder had two point scorers in the high jump with Brooklynn Rettig (1.54 meters / 5' 0.50") and Lia Vawter (1.51 meters / 4' 11.50"). Rettig's height in .01 off of the school record mark.

Madelyn Summers was the best thrower for Trine in the shot put and weight throw. Summers was third in the shot put at 11.94 meters (39' 2.25") with Zharia Dodson fifth (11.80 meters / 38' 8.75") and Chloe Bard seventh (11.62 meters / 38' 1.50"). Summers had a throw of 15.27 meters (50' 1.25") in the weight throw for a second-place finish.

The NCAA DIII Indoor Track and Field Championships take place on March 10-11 at the Cross Plex in Birmingham, Alabama. A press release from www.NCAA.com will be unveiled on Sunday, March 5 at 7 p.m. with the list of participating teams and student-athletes.
