2023 Outdoor Season Opens at Emory

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Trine University women's track and field team kicked off their 2023 outdoor campaign on Friday afternoon at the Thrills in the Hills Open at Emory University.

Day one featured Trine student-athletes scoring points in four field events. Madelyn Summers was fourth in the hammer throw at 44.36 meters (145' 6.00") for the best finish in field events. Emma Forker was fifth in the long jump at 5.28 meters (17' 4.00") and Malena Ricks matched her with a fifth-place finish in the javelin (31.92 meters / 104' 8.00"). Zharia Dodson also scored points in the javelin in seventh (24.71 meters / 81' 1.00"). Lia Vawter scored an eighth-place finish in the high jump at 1.40 meters (4' 7.00").

The best running event for the Thunder on Friday was the 5000-meter run. Trine had two score inside the top four in Ana Parker in second (19:07.62) and Hannah Parker in fourth (19:55.52). Bailey Puckett had the best time for the Thunder in the 1500-meter run at 5:10.81, good for 14th overall.

In the 400-meter hurdle event, Adrianne Jackson was eighth with a time of 1:09.23. The best finish for Trine in the 200-meter dash was secured by Mackenzie Miller at 26.59 seconds.

Action continues at Emory University on Saturday, March 25 while some members of the track and field team will take part in the Yellow Jacket Outdoor Open at Cedarville University as well.
