MIAA Selects Summers as Field Athlete of the Week

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Madelyn Summers of the Trine University women's track and field team has won her third Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Athlete of the Week award of the 2022-23 season. It is her first since the outdoor portion of the season began and the first award during the outdoor season of her career.

At the Thrills in the Hills Open hosted by Emory University, the senior from Kendallville, Indiana was in action in three different events. Her best finish came in the hammer throw where Summers was fourth with a toss of 44.36 meters (145' 6.00"). She also opened the outdoor slate with a podium seventh-place finish in the shot put at 11.83 meters (38' 9.75") and was scored 13th overall in the discus (32.51 meters / 106' 8.00").

At the national level, her best throw at Emory was good for 21st in NCAA DIII. In the conference, Summers has the number one hammer throw early in the outdoor season. She is also third in the MIAA in the shot put and ninth in the discus.

Trine is currently scheduled to compete this weekend at Michigan State University for the Spartan Invite on Friday, March 31.
