Women's Track and Field on the Rise After Warrior Open

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Indiana Tech hosted the Warrior Open on Friday afternoon and the Trine University women's track and field program put together some great performances at the event.

There were two event wins on the women's side. The first of which came from Brynn Mericle in the 400-meter hurdles. She completed the race with a time of 1:06.76 and just behind her were Adrianne Jackson in third (1:07.21), Aumrie Weiss in sixth (1:10.20) and Kristin Baker in eighth (1:11.31). The other win on the day came from Lydia Randolph in the 1500-meter run. She was the top finisher in the event at 4:45.05 and Bailey Puckett (5:03.53) and Eleanor Young (5:05.64) followed in fourth and fifth.

Mericle also had the team's quickest time in the 100-meter hurdles at 16.41 seconds, good for fourth. Also competing in the race were Jackson in seventh (16.95 seconds) and Baker in eighth (17.10 seconds). Baker, Jackson, Mericle and Weiss made up the 4x400-meter relay team which placed third with a time of 4:16.03. The other relay event of the day, the 4x100-meter relay, was ran by Mackenzie Miller, Emma Forker, Kaleigh Maschino and Malena Ricks. The quad were runners up at 49.98 seconds.

Tagging on to her performance in the 4x100-meter relay, Miller was the top scorer for Trine in both the 100-meter dash (12.47 seconds) and 200-meter dash (26.73 seconds).  She placed 2nd and 13th in said events. Also with a second-place finish was Katie Berlew in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Berlew completed the event with a time of 12:50.85.

Wrapping up the track events were five distance runners. Amira Faulkner placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:24.55 and less than one second back of her was Marissa Kenney with a fourth-place time of 2:24.87. A trio of student-athletes were inside the top-8 in the 5000-meter run. Brianna Medcalf was fifth (18:11.27) while Ana Parker was seventh (18:20.84) and Hannah Parker was eighth (19:10.81).

Forker highlighted field events for the Thunder with a second-place score of 5.38 meters (17' 8.00") in the long jump. Brooklynn Rettig was third-place in the high jump at 1.54 meters (5' 0.50"), just .01 meters off the school record mark.. In the pole vault, Morgan Moslow tied her own school record at 3.20 meters (10' 6.00"), which was good for fifth place. Avery Boyce was seventh in the event at 3.05 meters (10' 0.00").

Joining Moslow with a fifth-place finish was Ricks in the javelin. She scored 32.43 meters (106' 5.00") and Berlew went 29.15 meters (95' 8.00") for eighth in that event as well. Madelyn Summers brought home a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw at 42.87 meters (140' 8.00") while Abby Sanner led Trine in two separate events: the discus in 8th (36.13 meters / 118' 6.00") and shot put in 14th (10.67 meters / 35' 0.25").

Up next, the Trine women's track and field team is in action at the Indiana DIII Championships at DePauw University on Saturday, April 15.
