Team Win Goes to Trine at the Indiana DIII Championships

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Trine University women's track and field team found themselves on top in the 2023 Indiana DIII Championships at DePauw University on Saturday afternoon. The Thunder had five event wins, four of which came in running events.

Of the four longest races, three were won by Trine. In the 800-meter run, Brianna Medcalf was victorious with a time of 2:19.17. Ana Parker got the win in the 1500-meter run at 4:50.86 to highlight her day and Lydia Randolph took home first place in the 5000-meter run by finishing in 18:48.42. Hannah Parker was the top scorer in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 44:15.05. A variety of other student-athletes in those events were also inside the top-5, including Marissa Kenney (800), Amira Faulkner (1500), Bailey Puckett (1500) and Sidney Swick (5000).

The duo of Mackenzie Miller and Kaleigh Maschino were third and fifth in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash events. Miller's times were 12.44 seconds in the 100 and 26.10 seconds in the 200. Kristin Baker and Adrianne Jackson both collected top-5 spots in the 400-meter dash, led by Baker with a fourth-place time of 1:03.58.

Brynn Mericle was second in the 100-meter hurdle event after securing a time of 15.95 seconds. Both the 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay teams were in the top-2 as well. The team of Miller, Mericle, Machino and Malena Ricks were the event winners in the 4x100-meter relay (50.18 seconds) and Medcalf, Eleanor Young, Faulkner and Kenney were second in the longer race (4:21.23).

In the pole vault, Morgan Moslow and Avery Boyce each hit a height of 3.15 meters (10' 4.00") to go 1-2 in the event, the only win in the field portion of the meet. Brooklynn Rettig was runner-up in the high jump (1.49 meters / 4' 10.50") as well as Madelyn Summers in the hammer throw (46.39 meters / 152' 2.00"). Summers was eighth in the shot put (11.05 meters / 36' 3.00") and other top finishers in field events includes Ricks with a fifth-place javelin throw of 31.53 meters (103' 5.00") and Chloe Bard with a seventh-place discus throw of 35.51 meters (116' 6.00").

Next weekend, Trine will compete in the Little State Championships on April 21-22 at Indiana Wesleyan University.
