Trine in the Mix Following Day One of the MIAA Championships

OLIVET, Mich. – The Trine University women's track and field team competed in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Outdoor Championships on Thursday and secured an event win on day one.

Madelyn Summers helped the team (40 points) keep pace with frontrunners Hope College (58 points) and Calvin University (54 points) with a victory in the hammer throw. Summers' best toss was 45.21 meters (148' 4.00") to nab maximum points for the Thunder and win her first MIAA outdoor title.

In the only track final of the afternoon, Lydia Randolph finished runner-up in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 38:11.31. The trio of Avery Boyce, Morgan Moslow and Megan Large all scored points in the pole vault for Trine. Boyce narrowly missed a school record when she placed second at 3.20 meters (10' 6.00"). Moslow was in fourth at 3.00 meters (9' 10.00") and Large tied for sixth at 2.90 meters (9' 6.25").

Thunder student-athletes tallied sixth-place finishes in both the high jump and shot put. Brooklynn Rettig was sixth in the high jump at 1.51 meters (4' 11.50") and Lia Vawter secured the final place on the podium in eighth at 1.45 meters (4' 9.00"). Abby Sanner had a throw of 12.06 meters (39' 6.75") in the shot put.

Five different Thunder sprinters and hurdlers qualified for Friday's event finals in their events. Brynn Mericle (100H and 400H), Mackenzie Miller (100 and 200), Malena Ricks (100 and 200), Brianna Medcalf (800) and Adrianne Jackson (400H) all will compete for events wins on day two.

The MIAA champion will be crowned on Friday, May 5 when the teams return to action at Olivet College for day two.
