MIAA Championships See Trine Women Take Third

OLIVET, Mich. – The Trine University women's track and field team had one event champion en route to a third-place team finish at the 2023 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Outdoor Championships. Hope College pulled away from the field to claim the conference title with 240 points. Calvin University was second overall at 166 points and the Thunder third with 106 points.

Brianna Medcalf won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.99 to score maximum points for Trine in the event. A runner-up finish was credited to the 4x100-meter relay team of Mackenzie Miller, Kaleigh Maschino, Mallory Wood and Malena Ricks with a time of 49.25 seconds, just missing the school record mark.

A trio of third-place marks were garnered by Thunder student-athletes on day two of the event. Brynn Mericle was third in both the 100-meter hurdles (16.11 seconds) and the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.58). Adrianne Jackson was also able to score a point with an eighth-place finish in the longer of the hurdle events (1:10.56). Miller was third in the 100-meter dash (12.46 seconds) and Ricks was just behind in seventh (13.20 seconds). Both Miller and Mericle just missed school record marks in their events.

In the discus, Abby Sanner was able to secure a fourth-place finish in the discus at 37.20 seconds (122' 0.00"). Finishes inside the top-5 for the team were also tallied by Ana Parker in the 1500 (4:51.31) and Miller in the 200-meter dash (26.40 seconds). Lydia Randolph and Amira Faulkner were able to score points in the 1500 with a sixth-place time of 4:52.38 and a seventh-place time of 4:52.49. Ricks was eighth in the 200 at 27.19 seconds.

A sixth-place finish was credited to Ricks in the javelin with a toss of 32.01 meters (105' 0.00"). Randolph was seventh in the 5000-meter run (18:40.73) and Medcalf was able to add on to her impressive championship with an eighth-place finish in the 5000 (18:54.83). The 4x400-meter relay team of Kristin Baker, Emily Wahl, Aumrie Weiss and Adrianne Jackson registered a seventh-place finish at 4:17.88.
