Triathlon Competes in Beaver Valley Tri-Cup to Open 2022 Campaign

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Trine University triathlon team was in action on Saturday in the team's first competition in the 2022 season – the Beaver Valley Tri-Cup.

The defending national champions were led by senior Amira Faulkner with a 10th place time of 1:11:01.81. Freshman Grace Huisman and senior Alexandria Smith each were inside the top-20 in 17th and 19th positions. Huisman had a total time of 1:15:05.66 and Smith was shortly behind at 1:15:54.33.

Huisman had the fastest swim time on the afternoon at 14:16, while Faulkner made up time in the bike (33:32) and run (21:59).

Sophomore Kathryn Berlew, senior Samantha Weaver, junior Rebecca Schaffner and freshman Summer South were also in action at the event. Berlew and Weaver were 26th and 30th overall while Schaffner and South were 32nd and 34th. All seven competitors had times inside an hour and 30 minutes.

The next event of the season is the Millikin Invite on Saturday, September 24.
