Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today that the Trine University women's volleyball team has earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2012-13 season. It is the first AVCA Team Academic Award for the Thunder under head coach Jamie Wozniak and just the second time for the program since becoming an NCAA member school in 2004. The team also earned the honor for the 2005-06 season.

The Trine squad adds to its academic honors for the 2012-13 year after earning the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Team GPA award. The Thunder team was one of seven MIAA schools honored among the 93 winners in Division III. In all, 622 teams earned the honor.

The award, which was initiated during the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

More than 1,000 different schools have earned the award in the program's 20-year history, and 5,450 awards have been given out in total.
