Thunder Make Quick Work of Bulldogs

ANGOLA, Ind. - In convincing fashion, the Trine University volleyball team swept their match over rival Adrian College 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-21). The win improves the Thunder to 7-8 on the season and 2-3 in the MIAA.

The Thunder trailed early at 2-1 in the opening set but Trine would score three straight points to take a lead they would never relinquish. Adrian would pull within three midway through, but Trine would roll off 11 of the next 12 points to take the first set.

The second set was much of the same for the Thunder as they jumped out to an earl 4-0 lead. The Bulldogs would slowly rally back, tying the game at 10-10, but The Thunder would score the next two points to regain the lead. Trine would close out the set on a 13-4 run.

In the third set, the Bulldogs gave Trine a run for their money as the set saw the game tied seven different times. Trine would again jump out to an early lead at 5-2 and then push it to 12-5. Adrian would rattle off the next seven points to tie the match at 12-12. The two teams would battle it out from there as they exchanged multiple points. Adrian would take their first lead scoring four straight points to take a 20-18 advantage. The Thunder would answer back by scoring seven of the next eight points to take the set and the match.

Sophomore Taylor Rabel (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) led the Thunder on the night with 11 kills while hitting .375 from the floor. Fellow sophomore sisters Megan and Lauren Verkamp (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) tallied 10 and nine kills respectively and five digs apiece.

Junior Carly Searles (Levering, Mich./Petoskey) finished with her ninth double-double of the season with game-highs in assists (34) and digs (10) while adding six kills. Sophomore Stephanie Radandt (Walkerton, Ind./John Glenn) led the Thunder with a game-high four blocks and added four kills. Senior Carlee Felber (Newman, Calif./Orestimba) and junior Erin Lewis (Farmland, Ind./Winchester Community) each finished the night with six digs.

Trine gets right back at it as they host Kalamazoo on Sept. 21 at 11 a.m.
