Searles Named MIAA Specialist of the Week

ROYAL OAK, MICH.-- Trine's Carly Searles has been named the MIAA Specialist of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Searles (Levering, Mich./Petoskey) was named to the All-Tournament Team for her performance in the MIAA/HCAC Challenge this past weekend. Searles notched two triple-doubles to lead the Thunder to a 4-0 record and a share of the Tournament Championship with fellow-MIAA member Kalamazoo. Searles averaged 2.67 kills, 8.60 assists and 4.27 digs per set in the four matches. She also hit .449 on the attack. The senior is being honored as the MIAA Specialist of the Week for the third-time in her career.

Searles started the weekend with a 14-kill, 40-assist, 18-dig performance in a four-set victory over Rose-Hulman. She followed that by notching 13 kills on a .619 hitting percentage, 40 assists and 21 digs to help Trine come back from down 2-0 to defeat Anderson in five sets. Searles closed out the weekend with 13 kills, 49 assists and 25 digs in a pair of sweeps over Franklin and Manchester.

Trine has started the season 4-0 for the first time since 2005. The Thunder will host defending-National Champion Calvin this Friday, Sep. 5 at 6:00 p.m. in Hershey Hall.
