Searles Named MIAA Specialist of the Week

FREELAND, MICH.-- Trine's Carly Searles has been named MIAA Specialist of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Searles (Levering, Mich./Petoskey) notched two triple-doubles last week in leading the Thunder to a 3-1 record, including a pair of conference wins. The senior setter totaled 40 kills, 153 assists and 56 digs. She averaged 2.22 kills, 8.50 assists and 3.11 digs per set. Searles is being honored as MIAA Specialist of the Week for the second time this season and the fourth time in her career. Trine is off to a 9-2 start, with a 4-2 record in conference matches. Both Thunder losses have come to teams ranked no. 1 in the nation at the time of the match.

Triple-doubles in both ends of a pair of five-set victories Saturday highlighted Searles' performances on the week. She hit .393 without an error, while notching 11 kills, 41 assists and 11 digs in an MIAA-victory over Alma. Searles followed that up with 17 kills on a .552 hitting percentage, 49 assists and 11 digs in a come-from-behind victory over Defiance.

Searles also had a productive night in a four-set victory over Adrian earlier in the week, with 38 assists, 17 digs and eight kills. She became the ninth player in school-history to join the 1,000-career dig club in the match. Searles added 25 assists and 17 digs in a loss to no. 1 Hope Friday night.

On the season, Searles ranks fourth in the MIAA in assists per set (8.29) and fifth in hitting percentage (.349). Her 2.31 kills-per-set average is best among all setters in the conference.

Trine returns to action this Wednesday, Sept. 24 when they travel to Olivet for a match beginning at 6:30 p.m.
