Rabel Earns Academic All-District Recognition

ANGOLA, IND.-- Trine's Taylor Rabel earned recognition on the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District® Women's Volleyball Teams, which were released Thursday.

Rabel (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) was named a second-team honoree in District 7, which encompasses schools in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. The Capital One Academic All-District® teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® volleyball honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Rabel has excelled in the classroom with a 3.81 GPA in a demanding Mechanical Engineering program at Trine. The junior has been recognized on the MIAA Honor Roll every year she has been eligible.

On the court, Rabel has been a huge leader for a Trine team in the midst of their best season since the school joined NCAA Division III in 2004. The junior is averaging 3.58 kills per set, a mark that ranks fourth in the MIAA. Earlier in the season, she became the sixth player in school-history to top 900 kills in her career. Her 1,007 attack attempts are the third-most in the MIAA.

Rabel's well-rounded game has resulted in her notching a team-best 10 double-doubles this year. In addition to her offensive contributions, Rabel averages 2.25 digs per set.

Rabel has helped the Thunder to a 24-5 overall record, which includes a 12-4 record in conference matches. Trine has set a school-best mark for conference wins since joining the MIAA in 2004. The 24 wins are the highest by any team at the school since 1999.

Trine faces no. 1-ranked Calvin in the MIAA Semifinals this Friday, Nov. 7 at Hope College's DeVos Fieldhouse. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m.

The Academic All-District® teams include student-athletes representing eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
